Distance Gapping for Kids
This is a difficult question to answer as at any age we are not all the same size, strength or have the same ability.
The best way to answer this question is to work down your set of clubs from your average driving distance.
If you get the chance to do so, visit a driving range or your local club pro and ask if you can measure at least 10 good shots with a driver. Then take an average of those 10. Disregard any poor shots as they don’t give us any useful information for this exercise.
To get the best answers when Distance Gapping for Kids...
I go by carry distance only as the result of the total distance depends on many different factors, such as, downhill fairways, dry/wet ground etc…but I have listed typical roll distances too.
The below chart should then give an idea of the distances that you should look to hit each club in your bag. Please bear in mind that sometimes the same person with the same swing can hit 2 different makes of 7 iron and get different results.
This is a useful guide for you to chart your progress. It is often not how far we can hit each club that makes us the better golfer but consistency of distances which allows you to know which club to use for the shot ahead of you.
So let's take a look at some distances.

You may notice that the roll is very similar on these distances. This can be caused by the height the ball is hit for the longer distances. The higher ball flight usually results in the ball stopping sooner.
Also quicker club head speeds generate more spin which also stops the ball sooner. There are of course lots of different factors that go into this so please use this chart as a guide only. Different flex in shafts as well as loft in the club head can affect results.
